In what alternate universe does Air Canada exist? I can only imagine the internal rationalizations as they came up with this idea.
“Customers will love this”
“We’re giving them choice”
“The price is fair”
(Sidenote: The title of this blog post is a direct quote from an Air Canada employee at Toronto’s Pearson Airport that I overheard while waiting to check-in for a flight)
Totally agree Jon. The need for discount airfare really has airline execs thinking they have to commoditize everything that made flying so great.
Air Canada should look at Vueling (http://www.vueling.com/EN/index.php) – a great little Spanish carrier that hasn’t forgotten that the flight is about the experience, not just the ticket price. Each of their friendly attendants speak Spanish, French and English (minimum), their print materials are colorful and clear and their cabins are clean and spacious. Oh and they won’t charge your $35 if you’re delayed and need to find a good hotel to stay in.
Air Canada frustrates me to no end. I am constantly in struggle with them as I live in the prairies and travel to Toronto for work. A few examples:
Why is it that my American friends can travel from coast to coast of their own country for cheaper than it is for me to fly from Saskatoon to Regina?
I recently discovered that Air Canada’s website double-charged my VISA when I booked a ticket. I have not even been able to speak with anyone at Air Canada about the problem yet because I’ve been kept on hold on the telephone until I could no longer remain on the line.
Where is our Ryan Air?
