We still love pitching iPhone ideas but the Palm Pre offers us another way to present ideas that connect our clients with their customers. In light of this fact, we put together another PSD to help our designers pitch and develop polished concepts using a tool their pretty familiar with, Photoshop.
It’s put together in a similar fashion to the iPhone PSD, in that the elements are built with vectors for easy editing and scaling. We tried to capture most of the common GUI elements but inevitably we’ll be updating this as we use it more ourselves.
Update: We’ve been asked to remove the zip file that included the webOS font Coconut. The updated PSDs require CS4 and their corresponding font.
Requires Coconut
PalmPre_GUI_1_0_Coconut.psd.zip (7.3MB)
Requires Avenir
PalmPre_GUI_1_0_Avenir.psd.zip (7.4MB)
Props to Matt Fukuda for suggesting we do this. Additional thanks go to Finn O’Hara for the photo.
This is fantastic, great work, guys!
[…] props to the team at teehan+lax for creating a Palm Pre template for us design […]
Just a note about this. Since the Pre is unavailable in Canada and the SDK is not freely available (it was leaked while we were working on this) we had to get creative. We found the OS out on the Web. Every OS element was in there in. We went through all of them and then recreated them in the PSD.
Matt Fukuda sent us a ton of screen shots from his Palm that helped us understand how standard UI widgets were being used inside the OS.
I have no use for this yet, but I love to look at it. Thanks.

You LIKE looking like you’re associated with dead end products?
The Pre is Palms last gasp before the sad slow death rattle begins.
In the end only two mobile platforms are worth talking about iPhone and the BlackBerry. They even hit the same segments as the two big OSes Windows and OS X. At home people want Apple (Mac/iPhone) at work they have to use Windows/BlackBerry. This is how it shall be for 4 more years.

Beautiful work, guys.
Great work! Both Palm Pre GUI PSD and iPhone GUI PSD.
Actually, I was inspired by your idea and I created Android GUI PSD. Open-source community of Android deserve this. I added also phone illustration, because it is not any available out there. Take a look at http://www.matcheck.cz/androidguipsd/
Once more, wonderful work guys.

@Dave
Speak for yourself. I know plenty of people who are disenchanted with the iPhone and are looking for alternatives.
WebOS apps are made with simple Webkit HTML, CSS and images, nothing else. The “Style Matters” app from the Pre SDK shows how every possible OS UI control is built with HTML, CSS and images. It’s presumably much quicker for designers to simply work with the WebOS HTML and CSS than pixel push in Photoshop. That is, assuming the designer knows basic HTML and CSS, which most should.
For example, if you want to change the size of a dozen “scenes” in a Photoshop file is it very time consuming. You have to find all the text layers and change them one by one. If you mock up ideas using the WebOS HTML and CSS your font size controlled by a single CSS property. POOF! What takes 10 minutes in Photoshop takes 10 seconds in CSS.

Anyway, I love you guys and love the iPhone template you made : )

Where can i get my hands on the Coconut font which has been removed from the PSD package?
@influenceuk I don’t think it’s commercially available since Palm commissioned it. I think we got it by doing some Googling.
