Simplifying a wealth of information and creating one of Canada’s most downloaded iPad weather applications.
In Late 2010, Pelmorex Media Inc came to Teehan+Lax and tasked us with designing an iPad application for the Weather Network—Canada’s most accurate local weather forecasts and weather information for Canadian, U.S., and International cities.
This weather company is unique in that they not only have detailed weather forecasts, but also premium video, interactive charts, sat/radar maps, dress for school forecast, flight tracker, bug reports, and so much more.
With this in mind we needed to create a tablet experience that delivers users easy access to this rich information, while also maintaining simplicity.

Working on a sliding panel based system we were able to present a nice clean weather interface to the user while keeping the relational content only one swipe away accessible at all times no matter where you were in the app, this created a seamless browsing experience between the location and its relational content.
The Results
With 200,000+ downloads, WeatherEye quickly became the number 1 free app in the App Store and was met with great reviews:
“This is the weather app I’ve been waiting for. Puts the rest in a race for second place. Good job!”
“Easily the best weather app out there—and it’s free!”
“This ones a must have! Great UI. Trip forecast and charts are neat, too.”
